Comcast – A Pleasant Surprise
So I was totally ready to belt out a rant about Comcast when they pleasantly surprised me.
I’ve been a happy Vonage customer for going on 3 years. I’ve been receiving Comcast’s flyers for their competing digital phone service for a couple of years now, but usually it’s been at the rate of about 1/week. Annoying, but not enough to put me over the edge. I’d just put them in the recycling and life would go on.
Tonight, I received two on the same day, one plain and another disguised in an unmarked envelope:

Enough is enough!
“But,” thought I, “before I go off about it on my blog, how about I try calling them?”
I found their 800 number for calling about adding the service, in the fine print on one of the flyers. Called it, selected 1 for English, 4 for discontinue service, and then some other number to select their Home Phone service. A few seconds later and I was connected to a customer service rep in Sarasota (which was a pleasant surprise on its own. Guess they must have looked me up by caller ID). I politely asked to be taken off their mailing list and Annette politely took me off their mailing list, no questions asked. I was, frankly, amazed.
Kudos Comcast. I was ready for a fight. Now I’m actually more likely to consider your phone service.
Update: For the record, I’ve been a happy Comcast TV and cable Internet customer since I got to Florida 2002. I just don’t use their phone service, because I’ve been happy with Vonage, and until recently, Vonage has given me much better rates. -

Made it back early Sunday afternoon and immediately hit the sack, the consequences of which I am still paying for. Note to self: don’t take a red-eye back from Victoria. Or, if you do, just stay up the whole next day.
Had a great time with family and friends, and of course Joy, who’d not been outside, in snow, in many years. More to come; for now, my bed is looking awfully attractive.
