It’s only a hunch on my part, but here goes: they’ve had since 1884 to apologize. Why now? Could it be because indigenous peoples (“Indians”) were featured strongly in the 8 minute “intro to Vancouver” segment during the closing ceremonies of the Olympics, and the state of Washington wants to cleanse themselves of potential PR nightmares (in a bid to latch on to the very tangible economic benefits the 2010 Olympics will provide)?Maybe I’m a conspiracy theory nut? 🙂
