A couple of years ago I took part in the Gasparilla 5k with my friend Amy. That was fun, but we weren’t particularly out to set any land speed records, clocking in at 27 minutes.
Well, not wanting to be inconsistent, and, you know, train, this past Saturday I ran the Gasparilla 15K. Without breakfast (I slept in). How was this possible?
How about a beer stop every mile and a half? Heh. Yeah — trust Ultimate players to come up with the most ridiculous stuff. We placed teams of beer wenches (of both genders) evenly along the route. They poured cold ones into those plastic keg cups and had sliced limes at the ready. The looks we got from the serious runners were pretty amusing. I’m sure that the fact that all 15 of us were wearing Hawaiian shirts helped a little. 🙂 Moment of the day: when a couple in their 40s said, as we ran past them: “Oh, sh*t, it’s the beer drinkers.”
Total elapsed: just over 2 hours.
Afterwards we all met up at traditional Irish pub Four Green Fields and enjoyed, well, what else, hot food, cold beer and great company. Good times all around.

You’re modest. 27 minutes, suuuure. I was wondering where you were at first in the picture at the top — but of course you would have had to run past everyone to take it. You can brag a bit, I at least know what’s really going on. What can I say, the b33r br34ks would have spurred me on to greatness too.
