Hello hello

Ack, I have been struck by a case blogneglect. Sorry about that. Have had a few hard drive space issues in the past couple of days that have hindered things, combined with a ramp-up period at work, meaning shorter evenings. I would like you to know, though, that those San Diego pictures will be up in the next day or so ๐Ÿ™‚
This afternoon I’m going to Mote Marine (an aquarium in Sarasota) with Cam, Melissa, Hugo, and the interns Patricia and Ines. I’m excited — they have sharks! At least, I think they do. It’ll be neat to see what the local waters hold in terms of plants and animals, and how it compares/contrasts to the BC coast (which has one of the most diverse sea-life populations in the world).
Then it’s over to Jeff in the evening another of his famed BBQs (and undoubtedly, some hockey action). It’s crazy, the BBQs are getting to be an institution. This one must be the fourth or fifth in a row he’s hosted.

We have sharks here in B.C — I remember back in my high school days Mr. Delisle showed us a video he took while diving with his partner, and they were following what I think was a Tiger Shark; it was quite big either way!
They don’t seem inclined to attack all the time, just remember that in shark-laden waters, boogie boards are not your friend ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. There have also been several cases of great whites washing up on the shores … killed by an Orca (one of their only natural enemies). Typically they don’t like the cooler waters, but they are out there from time to time.
