• North Mississippi Galactic Funkadelica

Whew, what a weekend! Friday I went out to a Korean restaurant, Sam Oh Jung, with Cam to celebrate Sonia’s birthday. We met up with Eric J and Leonard there. Sam Oh Jung is one of those we’re-going-to-sell-it-all-because-these-people-don’t-know-the-difference-anyways type deals, with Korean and Chinese on the same menu as sushi. The food was good, but it a little on the expensive side. I had a small sake, two rolls, and bebim bop (a Korean dish) as my main course; Cam had two beer and a chicken entree (I can’t remember which). The bill before tax/tip was $53. That’s expensive isn’t it? Or maybe I’m just spoiled by Pad Thai (on Beneva)’s high quality:buck ratio.
Saturday night Eric G was kind enough to drive Cam, myself, Eric J and Sonia up to Jannus Landing in St. Pete to see Galactic and the North Mississippi Allstars. Tickets were $25 and worth every penny. It was great — both are funk bands, and both definitely rocked the haus. Check out their websites if you get the chance — there’s a number of songs and video clips available for streaming/download.
We unexpectedly ran into George (from my frisbee team) there, which was pretty cool, as well as a few of the Ultimate players from the St Pete area.. bigmassive shouts to Sprinx, Kelli, Ryan, Brett and Tricia ๐Ÿ™‚
Both bands are also in iTunes (Galactic; North Mississippi Allstars). Though, I’ve got a few sights and sounds of my own to share ๐Ÿ™‚ First the sights:

…then, the sounds — video, in fact:

If you’ve got a moment, I’ve also got the full-length versions of Galactic clips two and three; you’ll want to option-click the links (or if you’re under Windows, right-click and choose “Save Target As”) and go for lunch or something — these clips are being served from my cable modem; at my current connection speed, they’ll take about half an hour to download each, and that’s if two of you aren’t trying to do so at the same time. Trust me, though, they’re worth the wait. If there was a roof on the place, these guys would have torn it off. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Heresy

All around that dull gray world
    From Moscow to Berlin
    People storm the barricade
    Walls go tumbling in
    The counter-revolution
    People smiling through their tears
Who can give them back their lives
    And all those wasted years?
    All those precious wasted years
    Who will pay?
All around that dull gray world
    Of ideology
    People storm the marketplace
    And buy up fantasy
    The counter-revolution
At the counter of a store
People buy the things they want
And borrow for a little more
    All those wasted years
    All those precious wasted years
    Who will pay?
Do we have to be forgiving at last?
    What else can we do?
Do we have to say goodbye to the past?
    Yes I guess we do
All around this great big world
All the crap we had to take
    Bombs and basement fallout shelters
    All our lives at stake
    The bloody revolution
All the warheads in its wake
    All the fear and suffering
    All a big mistake
    All those wasted years
    All those precious wasted years
    Who will pay?
