• Yertle-ing

A couple weeks back, I made a reference to John Gruber’s article about the poor design of the OS X Finder.
Well, not everyone agrees; Jonathan Crowe gave an alternative perspective: it works just fine, thankyouverymuch. John Gruber has since written a followup to his original article, in it quoting Mr. Crowe. Mr Crowe has, in turn, posted a reply.
This whole thing reminds me of a game my friends and I would play back in elementary school. We’d all stack our hands together, one on top of another. There was always someone — dissatisfied with being on the bottom — that would take their hand and put it on top. This process would repeat until eventually the whole thing fell apart.
What’s my view? I think Apple should call the “Finder” in OS X something else, since it really bears little resemblance to the Finder of the past 15 years. At least then we might be able to view it as a “good start” or something.

  • Not a slack Sat

    Had a good day today:

    • Got the exhaust system completely replaced on the Altima ($288 after parts and labor and tax)
    • Bought the O’Reilly “Ant” book
    • Bought a tall caramel macchiato at the ‘Bucks inside Barnes and Noble
    • Checked out the Powershot G2 at Best Buy (they didn’t have the Powershot G3 in stock “yet” — come on, it’s been out for a couple months now)
    • Took the Altima for its first carwash
    • Bought a footlong sweet onion chicken teryaki sub at SubWay
    • Simon switched from cable to DSL — no hitch here! Pings are quicker too! (okay so I didn’t have to do much for this one)
    • Did some more research on market prices for the Powershot G2/G3 via eBay
    • Went to work, got a feature completed!
    • Returned and rented a DVD

    I am productivity man!
