So the Olympics started last night, on a somber note after a Georgian athlete, Nodar Kumaritashvilia, was killed while practicing on the super-fast luge course (with speeds exceeding 90mph). A terrible tragedy to start the games off with.
Managed to watch quite a bit of the coverage today, including ski jump, speed skating, biathlon, and now hockey. The women’s hockey team has been nothing short of amazing. Fast, accurate passes and amazing “field sense”… “ice sense” I suppose. Right now the 3rd period just started and it’s 13-0. They’re playing Slovakia, who is at the Olympics for the first time, so it’s to be expected, but I really feel like NHL players could learn a thing or two from the Canadian women. Make that 14-0. The record Olympic goal difference is 16, which Canada set against Italy in Torino. I’m pretty sure that with 15:24 to go, they’ll do it. Make that 15-0 with 15:23 to go. Ha.
